Spelling Lists
Spelling is important and is therefore taught from an early age. Starting in Early Years children begin to learn the sounds that letters and groups of letters make (phonics) in order to read words. They begin to use these sounds to write words although sometimes spelt wrongly they are often phonetically correct, they are using their phonemes to help them. As children progress through the school they are expected to learn how to spell words from memory. In years 3 -6 this is taught through games and written practice. We use a programme called Read, Write, Inc. Spelling delivered by Oxford Owl.
