Friday Round-Up
Spring term Week 9
6M’s Class Assembly:
On Thursday, we were treated to a stunning Harry Potter themed assembly – created by Mrs Morgan and performed by the very talented children in 6M. It was a truly outstanding performance and the children showed how they had learnt their lines perfectly – reading them clearly and loudly. All the children were dressed as different Harry Potter characters and everyone agreed how convincing they looked – and you could tell that Mrs Morgan was a former drama teacher at Roding Valley, as she had cast some of the male characters as females and some of the females as male characters – which was mightily impressive! Furthermore, the props were very life-like and added to the magic of the performance. We were even treated to a wonderful rendition of the Harry Potter theme by our very own (and very talented) Sam Hay Campbell (apologies Sam for not mentioning this in the thanks at the end – as it completely slipped my mind!)
A huge well done to Mrs Morgan and Mrs Elliott for all of their hard work and thank you to all the parents, carers and friends of the school who were able to attend!
Fab 50 Success:
Yet again, I am absolutely delighted to announce that we have yet another child who has successfully read all 50 books on their year group’s ‘Fab 50’ list. Huge congratulations to Amelia Thompson, from 1B, who has become the fourth member of the school to complete this impressive challenge! She has clearly been working incredibly hard with her reading. As a reward, she too will be treated to a Headteacher’s lunch with myself next week where I shall look forward to her telling me all about the fascinating books she has read.
Autism Awareness Week & Silly Sock Day:
This week the children at St John’s have been learning more about autism due to it being National Autism Awareness Week. Each class has enjoyed a range of circle time activities and assemblies, with the children having the opportunity to discover more about autism and the importance of accepting each other’s differences. Today, the school rounded off the week with a ‘Silly Sock Day’ (an event organised by Autism Anglia) to raise money for this special cause. Thank you to everyone who brought in £1. Please check out some of the photos taken on Friday at: http://st-johns-school.com/
Easter Egg Collection:
In last Friday’s Roundup, I mentioned that St John’s School has been asked to collect Easter Eggs for local needy people in Norway House and I am delighted to say that we have currently collected over 60 chocolate eggs! Once again, if you would like to take part and you have a spare Easter Egg, or if you would like to purchase one separately, then please send it into the school over the next few days to your child’s class teacher and they will be added to our display in school and eventually sent over to Norway House.
Thank you for your support of this charitable cause.
Safeguarding:
E safety update!
Who do you speak to if you need help with e safety or supporting your child online?
Class teachers are fully trained in e safety issues and can offer support and advice on any e safety topics you would like to discuss.
Last week we shared the NSPCC helpline and website details, but did you know that you can also seek face to face support by visiting any O2 store?
The best way to support our children online is to talk about what they are accessing online and if we are well informed we can support them better.
For more information, speak to your class teacher or visit https://www.o2.co.uk/help/
Easter Smarties
Next week your child will receive a tube of Smarties as an Easter gift from the PTA. Once they are finished with the Smarties, please keep the tube and write your child’s name and class on it. Then during the holidays please encourage your child to help with chores for a small fee of 20p which is placed in the Smarties tube. The aim is for them to try and fill the tube over the holidays. During the first week back to school (16th-20th April) please hand the tube to a PTA member at the school gates or in at the office. The class that makes the most money will win a prize!
