Crossing Patrol

Many of you may have already heard the sad news that Brian, our Church Lane Crossing Patrol Officer, sadly passed away on Monday. I am sure you will join me in sending our condolences to his family. We do have a collection at the front office for those wishing to contribute. Unfortunately, I do not have any further updates for you regarding the permanent replacement for both roles. Please keep spreading the word.

Children Using the Internet

Last week the Children’s Commissioner for England remarked that it was’ irresponsible to let children roam in a world they were ill prepared for’. She went on to say that all of the children in the research she carried out did not understand the terms and conditions of the social media they were using (Instagram has 5000 words and 17 pages) and therefore the amount of personal information they were giving away and that photographs will remain on the internet for years. E-Safety is taught, at an age appropriate level, every half term to every class in the school but I would ask parents to ensure you have activated a higher enough level of security on your browser to prevent children seeing unsuitable content. Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Cricket Success

Mikaeel Lodhi 4D attended cricket trials in December for The London Schools Cricket Team (county level) along with 70 other boys in his age range. I am delighted to announce he has been selected to play for the under 10's team and will begin his training with the squad next month at the Oval. He also starts playing for Buckhurst Hill CC later this month. Congratulations Mikaeel on your success, an excellent achievement. We have an increasingly number of our children attending training and matches with Buckhurst Hill Cricket Club and I understand that St John’s families made up a significant number of the attendees at last years end of season Prize Giving. Here are the details of their winter indoor cricket coaching. Location: Bancrofts School Sports Hall, High Road, Woodford Green. IG8 0RF (entrance from Whitehall Lane) Date/Time: Starts Sunday 29 January 2017 until Sunday 09 April 2017 (incl half terms) UNDER 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 from 4.30pm until 5.30pm Coaching will be provided by the Club Coaches, headed by Ricky Reynolds - MCC Community Coach (www.lords.org/news/2015) and 1st Team Captain

Punctuality

Just to remind you at the doors to the school open at 8.45am with the register being taken at 8.55am, the start of school. Please arrive before 8.55am otherwise your child, particularly the younger children, will not have time to put away their coat, homework, reading folder etc. Good habits of time keeping are established in childhood and you wouldn’t want them to be late on their first day at work!?

Many thanks for your cooperation. Enjoy the weekend. Yours sincerely, P.J.Tidmarsh Headmaster
