Foorball Rally - 22nd June 2018
Rescheduled from April, the eagerly awaited annual football rally finally took place today. Two teams of boys took to the pitches and played with determination and resilience in extremely hot temperatures. The 'B', team showed great skill throughout the day and, even though they didn't win any matches, showed great defensive pressure to secure a number of draws.
The 'A' team fared better and finished the first round with 6 wins and 1 draw to reach the semi-finals against Staples Road School. St. John's started badly going down 2 goals in quick succession. However, as ever they didn't give up and they managed to get 2 goals back and finish the match with a 2-2 draw and having to face a penalty shoot-out. After Staples Road missed their first attempt, Ryan held his nerve to score and Spencer stood firm to save the second from Staples Road. It was then down to Oscar who calmly slotted one passed the keeper to secure the place in the final where the met the St. John Fisher 'A' team. Again this was evenly matched with neither team being able to score in the first half; Spencer making a number of crucial saves. However, it was not to be their day as the St. John Fisher team nicked the one and only goal of the match in the last minute to secure the victory.
It was not all bad news though as St. John's were crowned League champions after remaining unbeaten all season.
Well done to all the boys who represented to school today and throughout the whole season.
