Collective Worship
St John's is a voluntary controlled Church of England school.
Although we teach the six main world religions, we celebrate
Christianity on a daily basis. Our assemblies reflect our rich
and varied Christian heritage whilst drawing upon the beliefs
and festivals of other cultures in a bid to increase the
children's knowledge and understanding.
In our 2008 Inspection the Church of England Inspector wrote:
'The school places great importance on collective worship in its
daily life. When questioned during the inspection pupils
expressed enjoyment of collective worship and their responses
were entirely positive.
The act of worship witnessed in Shrove Tuesday was very good and
fully in keeping with Anglican tradition. It centred on
the theme of seeking forgiveness and leads the way to further
observance of Lent. Pupils and staff were fully engaged
and the act provided opportunity for prayer, praise and
reflection as well as offering spiritual guidance and support.
Pupils participated well, particularly in the singing, the
reading and prayers. It had a distinctive, original format
specific to the school and was a very worshipful occasion.
Prayers are said every day in assembly and in class before lunch
and
home time.
Parents may make a request to withdraw a child from assemblies
and religious education. Such a request would need to be
discussed with the Headmaster. |
