The History of St John's Primary School
St John's CE Primary School is situated on the borders of Epping
Forest. It
was founded in 1838 to provide education 'according to the principles
and
practices of the Church of England'.
Originally a school for girls only,
St
John's is now fully co-educational and still upholds the traditional
values
of the Church whilst taking full advantage of modern technology and
innovations.
The interior of the school was remodelled in 1979 and is currently
undergoing an exciting new phase of remodelling. In 2004, the school was
fortunate to have a new school hall built, the Barn, which has opened up
the
school premises immensely. We are also proud to be building a new,
state-of-the-art classroom block which will allow greater use of ICT
equipment whilst ensuring that the school provides a stimulating
environment
for the 21st century.
St John's has just over 300 pupils on roll, which accommodates the
45-pupil intake each academic year. To ensure that each and every child
has the best education possible, we have divided years 1 and 2 into four
small classes with an average 22/23 children in each. In years 3 - 6,
the children are in classes of 30, with the children in years 3 and 4
being divided into three split-year groups. The same format applies to
years 5 and 6.
