About West Essex SCITT
At West Essex SCITT, St John’s C of E Primary School, Larkswood Primary Academy and across our partnership schools, we believe that teaching is an exciting, challenging and rewarding profession. St John’s CE Primary School is a good school and also a National Teaching School. Our vision is to offer the highest standard of education for all, both in our local community and the wider area.
The West Essex SCITT is located in Buckhurst Hill, on the edge of Epping Forest, which is London’s largest open space of approximately 6,000 acres. The forest is of national and international conservation importance, with two thirds designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation, providing a great place to work and live. We are also directly on the Central Line with a 20 minute access to central London.
We pride ourselves on having a proven track record in training and professional development. Our teachers are excellent practitioners and are eager to share their skills, knowledge and vision with the next generation of teachers.
We offer salaried and unsalaried School Direct (Primary) placements to graduates, or those who are looking for a change of career. This path into teaching is a great way to gain the qualifications and practical skills you need to become a teacher. It enables those who have just finished a degree, or have been working in a career for many years, to combine teacher training with actually doing and learning on the job. These places are either salaried or School Direct (fee funded) only.
The unsalaried (fee funded) course fee is £9,000.00
The salaried position is offered with a salary of point 1 unqualified teacher rate (pro rata, for the duration of the course).
The Primary programme will train you to teach within one of two age ranges. Either 3-7 or 5-11 years old.
All of our partnership primary schools are within the Waltham Forest, Epping Forest and or West Essex area and are accessible by Rail, Central Line Tube or bus routes.
This course will be based in one school for the majority of the year with a short second placement in a contrast school setting. Part of the course is theory based and there will be formal training days held mainly in the training room at West Essex SCITT, in Buckhurst Hill. The course is accredited by West Essex SCITT and successful trainees will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status.
School Direct requires a commitment of 5 days a week from September to July. Trainees are expected to participate fully in the everyday life of the schools in which they train and, therefore, occasional evening or extra-curricular events will be obligatory.
